Little Amelie

Now for something a little less Anke related. I just watched the brilliant Little Amelie was amazed by the very simple story that was beautifully created. The story is about a Japanese and Belgian child who believes she is a god before she reaches talking age. That time in our formative years where we absorb so much information but don’t understand much of it.

I’ve always loved the style of strong block colour with little to no outlines. What has lit a little fire of inspiration in me was this style as well as shadows and light being made in a very simple yet sharp way.

I would love to do some style experiments of Little Amelie with my characters as well as using the very simple narrative for my own work.

Anke has become quite complicated and a little snippet featuring two of the characters told in a simple way could be a good start to actually creating a 1:30 to 2 minute animation as a start. I do have a tendecy to over complicate things and that’s why I really enjoyed Little Amelie. A lot of flair and personality was added to a simple story and it really worked!

Below are a few screenshots from the film.
